It is estimated that the ocean contains 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic. Think about that for a second. Most of the plastic accumulates at massive points of ocean current convergence. The Great Pacific Garbage Gyre - a colossal Pacific trash vortex - spans across waters from the West Coast of the USA to the shores of the Japanese islands. It is comprised of a western and an eastern patch. The eastern patch is devastating marine life between the U.S. states of Hawaii and California. These patches are growing at a frightening rate, will we be able to stop them in time?
